We were born of another startup and when the previous company was completely gone we redid the office interior to make it "feel" different. One distinct choice was rough-hewn cedar wall-cladding on some walls to add warmth and texture.
These maps hang in our lobby to remind our team that even though we're a software company, we're having a real impact and helping associations and event managers all over the world. There are pins in each city where we have a client, hundreds of pins across 5 continents.
Having goals and being transparent is important. As a team, we break down our yearly initiatives into quarterly goals. These get published and placed right in the lobby for everyone to see when they walk in the door.
The temperature of the office was a big point of contention for quite some time, but we've now reached an armistice as long as no one touches it. It stays at 73 degrees Fahrenheit all year. You may see an employee or two walking around wrapped in blankets.
Several of us now collect stickers to give to Jeremy for this fun office window. Every sticker on here has a story that goes with it. Whether it was from a trip, included with a product purchased, or given by one of the staff members. See anything you recognize?
Who wouldn't want to work in a cabin? Jeremy's office is set up to feel warm and cozy and since it has no windows, he also doesn't know what time it is (please do not tap on the glass or feed the programmers).
Jeremy's a big fan of both vintage travel posters and the Epcot World Showcase in Orlando. He's combined these two interests into a series of travel posters he's been working on.
We don't do a whole lot in the way of seasonal decor, but we do have a wreath for our front door for each season.
We needed to make space for Stephanie, who was starting the very next day. Someone said it couldn't be done in 24 hours, but not being one to step away from a challenge, Jeremy worked through the night to build a new space just in time. Shelves removed, walls spackled and painted, wall frame built, and cedar wall and ledges added.
Remi almost never comes out of his office, and since this chair looks so comfortable, we sometimes wonder if he even sleeps in there!
Laura Beth loves dinosaurs. She can tell you all their names, and occasionally they get into fights. Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! (Bonus points if you get that reference)
Matt loves video games and is particularly fond of the Super Mario Bros gang. We think it really gives his desk some....character.
These posters are from Mondo in Austin, Texas and are extremely limited editions. The posters are very difficult to get, but Chris has about 25 more at home. The Johnny Quest print was given to him as a gift and according to Chris, JQ is "pretty much the greatest cartoon of all time."
This beautiful piece was left abandoned in a hallway when Chris' former employer moved to a different office. Chris really wanted it in his office at Map Dynamics, so he and Jeremy snagged it. Chris likes it because it fits with the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic he loves so much.
We have several Doctor Who fans in the office, including Aaron. While this isn't the only bit of Doctor Who merchandise around (can you find more?), it's probably the coolest.
After a previous employee used white board paint on this wall, it needed some major TLC. Amanda spent hours sanding, spackling, painting, and designing this gallery wall. It features her family, local artists, and quite a bit of geekery. The photo on the top right is a custom illustration Amanda commissioned of her and her husband playing Destiny, their favorite video game.
Our Support Manager, Matt, bought this as a gift for Jeremy. He said, "this is what I think of when your door is closed and you're building something." (There are many Disney fans in the office, so it fits right in!)
Whether you're addressing and stuffing envelopes or just taking a lunch break, this big TV is a great source of entertainment. Some of the most watched things are Moana, Gilmore Girls, and Doctor Who.
One of our clients' maps had an area labeled "sofa office" and that sounded like just the best place to be, so we made our own!
Our clients are all over the world so we no longer needed a conference room. This is where we have meetings, take breaks, and make space for contractors to do work for us. It's also where we film our videos!
Al used to live in Chris' office, but took up residence in the back room while Gogo was on vacation last year. She came back to him seated at her desk, wearing her headphones, and answering customer emails. He's been an on call member of the marketing and support team ever since.
While our office isn't particularly large it is packed with intention and contributions by the team.
